I am working on getting Gnome built on my system. I have it so I can build 2.14 or 2.16. At the moment, I can get the games up and running (e.g. tetravex), but I am still making my way through the packages. > I was intending to try to build gnome 2.16 just following the above > instructions for 2.14 and hoping not to come across any snags. I haven't come across any difficulties yet using 2.16. However, the thing to be aware of is that there are various utilities and libraries (glib, esound, librsvg, libxml and others) that BLFS places in areas outside the gnome chapter. The gnome 2.16 distribution has the updated versions of these in the 2.16 download. You need to use the newer packages, otherwise gnome will not build. Apart from that (and changing references from 2.14 to 2.16), it should be straightforward.
