I am working on getting Gnome built on my system. I have it so I
can build 2.14 or 2.16. At the moment, I can get the games up and
running (e.g. tetravex), but I am still making my way through the
packages.

I haven't come across any difficulties yet using 2.16. However,
the thing to be aware of is that there are various utilities and
libraries (glib, esound, librsvg, libxml and others) that BLFS
places in areas outside the gnome chapter. The gnome 2.16
distribution has the updated versions of these in the 2.16
download. You need to use the newer packages, otherwise
gnome will not build.

Apart from that (and changing references from 2.14 to 2.16),
it should be straightforward.

I had succesfully build gnome-2.17 in /opt on my 32 bit system, and apart
from having some trouble with D-BUS(had to get the D-BUS QT3 bindings from
CVS) I found that just following each configure scripts' information for not
yet installed packages and the GNOME-2.14 section on BLFS was sufficient. I
ended up having a really weird gnome though, it couldn't detect any icons
and start menu entries. But I suspect that my CFLAGS were the problem.
