That did the trick. Other QT4 "gotchas" include:
1. "make install" installs everything - and builds and installs
the (in my case, unwanted) examples :(
2. There no longer appears to be any man pages, it's all HTML.
3. There no longer is a thread configure option or a
libqt-mt.so AFAIK, multithreaded support is now built-in.
Be warned that many/most applications still require QT3,
so you may want to install that series as well.
