When I jumped ahead of the book a couple of years ago and built Gnome
2.16 while SVN was still showing 2.10, I just played it by
trial-and-error - I used the 2.10 book as a guide and started building
packages; every time I ran into another dependency during config I added
that to my own notes.
Speaking of new dependency issues, what can you tell us about avahi? I
tried using Garnome this week to build 2.18.3 and it tied a bunch of
stuff to avahi, but I can't tell if avahi (or hal, for that matter) is
required for full functionality or not.
As always, thanks for all the hard work you do so we don't have to!
