I think perhaps there is only one thread specifically about LFS but one problem compiling c-f does had a work around. See this bug report: http://bugs.opencompositing.org/show_bug.cgi?id=268 I use Ubuntu as my main desktop now and c-f works fine on that. But I have never built gnome on my LFS systems. I used to use XFCE and had beryl running happily with that. I am unsure "how much of gnome" is actually needed to get c-f up and running. May be ask the question on their forum?
