Wow, what a long strange mess this was. So, the server board, desktop board and Pent D are retired. It started with the desktop board developing a case of the hangs (HDD light goes on solid, machine hangs, no response) with the only fix being a power cycle... which started to not come back up after the machine was powered down. So, I switched to the server board, and everything was good... for a few days until the fan controller circuit on the board died. CPU fan, case fan, any fan header on the board was dead. Needless to say, the CPU overheated in a few seconds and the system shut down. So, the desktop board went back in and proceeded to do the hang and not power up thing again, and this time, I wasn't able to convince it to power back up. (Insert power cord, push power button, lights and fans spin for a few seconds, then turns off. At this time, I notice that that LAN blinkins also go dark when this happens) So, the boards and CPU have been retired, and in it's place is an OEM 8400, ECS 945 chipset board, and a new Corsair module power supply. Cheap board, but it will keep it running until I decide on my next server board, which will probably be a Tyan. :-) Bad part of the whole mess, besides the semi-obscene amount of dosh I ended up spending, is that the RAM appears to be in a questionable state. I've been getting CPU context corrupt errors every so often, and nothing appears to be overheating.
