xpdf-3.02pl4 works well for me with the most recent xorg sources. It requires lesstif-0.95.2 printproto-1.0.4 libXp-1.0.0 and t1lib-5.1.0. It's not as pretty onscreen as Evince but it's better at printing. It prints really well and allows text searching in pdf files.
