I installed Berkeley DB-4.8.26 without any optional 
dependencies and added:

--with-dbm=db45 --with-berkeley-db

to the default configuration from the book for Apache.

Subversion still asks for SQLite.I guess the best option
is to go ahead and install instead of user older versions.

I browsed the Apache source tree and found no references to
using Berkeley.
