And this one is found in the same place as the first question. A little hint to your first two questions. Look in /etc there is one file that will solve the whole thing. It has to be set up correctly with another one in another directory for a proper boot. The book does touch on the file you need to modify but it does not tell you everything about how to configure it. I have heard that HAL is going away. udev seems to work well in place of HAL.
