Thanks for the link.   Ghostscript and linux-printing in general is in 
transition to make use of large memory available  acording to the link ( copy 
ALL and paste in browser) below:-

pstoraster is crashing  as not enough memory is allocated in version-8.7.1. ( 
I have crashes even will allocation of 1GByte!)  I have important   
applications  sitting on ghostscript-8.7.1 (including qt4, so I am reluctant 
to rip-it out uinless the RIPCache problem is fixed.  Input from anyuone on 
list  who has tried GPLGhostscript9 will be much appreciatd.
