I finished the Xorg-7 install. The fonts are installed by default
in $XORG_PREFIX/share/fonts/X11 . Using the default xorg server install
the server looks for them in ${libdir}/X11/fonts. Passing the correct
--with-fontdir=$XORG_PREFIX/share/fonts/X11 fixes the problem. This is
probably common knowledge by everybody but me , but it's not clear from
the instructions.
