I'm not an expert on either the kernel or Xorg, or on x86-64 as I've never used a 64 bit os, but I think you recieved very good advice about using a vanilla kernel. I would never use distribution kernel or their kernel config or the xorg.conf from the host(unless it was a previous LFS build), but that is only my opinion. Also a comment about building the drivers. I only build the driver for my card,plus of course the input drivers and add the fb and vesa driver, just in case.I had some issues with driver detection before building all the drivers on the wget-list .
