Surprisingly generic, actually. My previous machine ran an 32-bit AMD processor, and everything was built with -march=athlon optimisations. Yet upon upgrading to an Intel Core2 chip, I was surprised and pleased to find that the new machine could boot and run happily off the old hard disk. Relieved too, since the more generic boot CD I'd been expecting to need didn't boot on the new machine... Simon.
