Hi Andy,
Thank you for the quick reply.

Alex:
'libpng' with or without "apng" is an exercise
in futility: one MUST comment out,
 # ac_add_options --with-system-png

Andy:
No, it builds fine --with-system-png here.

Alex:
In your Mar 22, 2011 12:36:43 PM comment
my current mozconfig looks like this:
 ...
 there's no "--with-system-png" line.

Andy:
There is definitely an --enable-system-png line

Alex (comments as of this writing):
 I said
  there's no "--with-system-png" line
 I don't remember mentioning "-- enable" :)

Apparently, "with" <> "enable", not only in E-mailing but
in the real life of compiling:

 1.1. "--enable-system-png" doesn't exist in
    'configure --help' (for Firefox-4.0)

 1.2. Like I said,
   one MUST comment out,
   # ac_add_options --with-system-png

If I left it commented out (or non existent like in
your '.mozconfig') and ADD your "--enable-system-png"
   the build works AOK.
Meaning, in my opinion, that Firefox DISREGARDS
   "--enable-system-png" (without complaining).
It just wants to catch you with using "--with-system-png"
   and beat you up mercylessly.

I'd be curious if you try to recompile with
"--enable-system-png" (or without, if you so choose)
   BUT WITH "--with-system-png" (un-commented).

My bet is your build will fail like mine.
Might not even depend on your using 1.4.4 vs. mine 1.5.1.

Repeating myself, the completely surprising E-mail I got today
(they usually "respond" to a report long after there's
a much newer version where the problem no longer exists, as if
through magic) actually reaffirms my "Arrows" Bug report (640850)
It just redirects you to a very elaborate and long Bug (621962)
discussion, which, the way I could read it, confirms the
disappearance of the arrows (connected with gtk+-2).

Thank you for your help (Themes and all).
I still belong to the old school where a Bug (especially one
 - typical of Firefox - where a (main) feature is pulled right out
from under you - a REGRESSION as they would say in my school)
should be fixed, not covered up with fancy schmancy tricks
This is what teenagers have been invented for (to get their kicks
with Themes and Personas - instead of playing "Angry Birds"!).

Thanks
-- Alex

PS I'm eagerly waiting for the "main" one, Item No 3 reply
    to my question.
