I'm using glib-2.30.1 but glib could be the problem.  I also read on the 
Help/About screen GStreamer is used.  I see that in the BLFS 
documentation.  I'll try running Opera from a terminal which was a good 
suggestion.

On another front ...  I really got a kick from "waves hands as if he 
knows what he's talking about."
