Trying to isolate the problem, we took an image of LFS7 ( nothing but LFS7) to a new partition on the PC, compiled xorg and started fluxbox. Everything ok, mouse, keyboard and screen.
Then, we recompiled the kernel ( 3.1, lfs 7 config) with two small changes ( fuse driver added, device drivers-> generic driver option ) and rebooted the system. As already reported, the screen (in this case fluxbox ) shows up, but no keyboard, no mouse are availaible. However, Xorg.0.log was this time different: ------------------ [ 27.807] (II) GLX: Initialized DRISWRAST GL provider for screen 0 [ 27.807] (II) NV(0): Setting screen physical size to 507 x 285 [ 28.176] (II) config/udev: Adding input device Logitech USB Receiver (/dev/input/mouse0) [ 28.176] (**) Logitech USB Receiver: Applying InputClass "keyboard-all" [ 28.176] (**) Logitech USB Receiver: Applying InputClass "keyboard-all" [ 28.176] (II) LoadModule: "evdev" [ 28.177] (II) Loading /usr/lib/X11/modules/input/evdev_drv.so [11098.094874] sd 7:0:0:0: [sdf] Write Protect is off [11098.095871] sd 7:0:0:0: [sdf] No Caching mode page present [11098.096070] sd 7:0:0:0: [sdf] Assuming drive cache: write through [ 28.193] ABI class: X.Org XInput driver, version 13.0 [ 28.193] (II) Using input driver 'evdev' for 'Logitech USB Receiver' [ 28.193] (II) Loading /usr/lib/X11/modules/input/evdev_drv.so [ 28.193] (**) Logitech USB Receiver: always reports core events [ 28.193] (**) Logitech USB Receiver: Device: "/dev/input/mouse0" [ 28.193] (EE) ioctl EVIOCGNAME failed: Inappropriate ioctl for device [ 28.207] (EE) PreInit returned 8 for "Logitech USB Receiver" [ 28.207] (II) UnloadModule: "evdev" [ 28.207] (II) Unloading evdev [ 28.207] (II) config/udev: Adding input device Logitech USB Receiver (/dev/input/mouse1) [ 28.207] (**) Logitech USB Receiver: Applying InputClass "keyboard-all" [ 28.207] (**) Logitech USB Receiver: Applying InputClass "keyboard-all" [ 28.207] (**) Logitech USB Receiver: Applying InputClass "keyboard-all" [ 28.207] (**) Logitech USB Receiver: Applying InputClass "keyboard-all" [ 28.207] (II) Using input driver 'evdev' for 'Logitech USB Receiver' [ 28.207] (II) Loading /usr/lib/X11/modules/input/evdev_drv.so [ 28.207] (**) Logitech USB Receiver: always reports core events [ 28.207] (**) Logitech USB Receiver: Device: "/dev/input/mouse1" [ 28.207] (EE) ioctl EVIOCGNAME failed: Inappropriate ioctl for device [ 28.223] (EE) PreInit returned 8 for "Logitech USB Receiver" [ 28.223] (II) UnloadModule: "evdev" [ 28.223] (II) Unloading evdev ------------------ evdev was loaded, but I faced an "Inappropriate ioctl for device" I shall follow up the problem, perhaps installing xorg.confs for mouse and keyboard, but it seems to me, that something in the game xorg/kernel ist not yet foolproved. There are some reports about this or similar problems in google, e.g. Bug #521436 “ioctl EVIOCGNAME failed: Inappropriate ioctl for de ... https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/521436 and others ( withouth solutions ). I wonder, if somebody has observed similar effects recompiling the kernel in a new xorg ( evdev ) environment. Edgar -- Dr.-Ing.
