It looks that there was already some work on porting SDL to Wayland. 
According to the Wayland's fd.o page [1], sdl-wayland port has been 
available in freedesktop.org git repos. According to other source, more 
work is available at [2].

I asked a guy who likes using console tools a lot if he knows what 
Wayland is. He replied that Wayland is replacement for Ncurses.
