miraculously I tried a third memory stick and did a cat /proc/partitions and this registered /dev/sdb and /dev/sdb1 using the BruceDobbs kernel config. I rebooted into a kernel I had made and it generated entries in /dev I now tested a numberof disks and most mount but it appears I have at least three sticks two of which are frequently used to fetch stuff from the internet and its these two I have ben using to test for the last two frustrating days. ALSO whilst 'non-faulty; usb-sticks' are plugged in they generated a string of lines of this type [ 123.457890 ] 00 00 00 00 00 00 (the [ 123.457890 ] keeps changing with frequent line changes ( rapidly filling the console screen ) but the 00 00 00 00 00 00 remaining constant. is there a way to stop this noise? -- http://linuxfromscratch.org/mailman/listinfo/blfs-support FAQ: http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/blfs/faq.html Unsubscribe: See the above information page
