For a long time, I have been aware that I did not understand the
networking (/etc/sysconfig) part of LFS-7. But on desktops and my
server I understood enough to set up a fixed address, or dhclient,
on my single eth0 ethernet connection. But I now have LFS on my
netbook, which has both eth0 and wifi0 (which is why I'm asking on
the blfs support list).

At the moment I have wpa_supplicant working ok, with connectivity
for wifi0. For most of my use at home that is ok, although there
will be occasions when I want to use the wired eth0. It seems to me
that NetworkManager will be my best option, but before I ask about
how to get that to work in my setup, I guess I need to ask a simpler
question : can I _easily_ switch between eth0 and wifi0 when the
wifi is enabled with wpa_supplicant ?

It appears to me that if both are enabled on boot, the box will
waste time trying to conect to both of them. So at the moment my
ifconfig.eth0 has ONBOOT="no" because usually nothing is plugged in
there. And if I want to turn off wpa_supplicant, or turn on eth0,
root has to edit the two sysconfig files and then reboot ?

Sometimes she went to bed as early as 6 a.m.
