That's true, but they're identical boxes: same MoBo, same CPU, same
video, same amount of RAM, even same HD, although partitioned
differently. It was just easier that way back in the day when I
occasionally ran some other software ;-) that was all too likely to
scream "PIRACY!" if some hardware failed and I tried to rehost the
drive/system. Proved useful this time when the heatsink popped half off
the CPU on this box and it started behaving flakey, until found. I just
swapped the drives and kept on truckin' until I had more spare time.

Been there, done that. I asked on the LFS list in a Kernel Choices
thread in January. You recommended 14 then, but because it is old HW I
wanted to make the jump from 5 to 14 in two jumps (no longer able to
leap tall buildings in a single bound). I tried 11 then 10, in both the
USB driver spit useless messages on the console once per second. 9 was
OK, so I settled on 9.11. When I get this "release candidate" in
service I'll explore others, or LFS-7.7.

Really? I've always though that risky because parameters get removed
and added, you've still got the first and miss the second. Do you run
oldconfig at least?
