Perhaps for the reason Ken got out his old box?  In my case, when I 
was already running a LFS-6.1 based system every day, I went back and 
created a LFS-2.1 system to run on my "original" (forgetting my IMSAI) 
486-33 to use as an email relay when I had to replace an ISP.

That's one of the basic properties of Linux systems, making special
purpose systems when necessary.
