I've had the problem for years, it definitely isn't something to
justify a new build. And I suspect that nvidia cards might "just
work". I keep hoping that somebody who uses BLFS will have similar
hardware and a working setup.
At the moment, I'm doing other things (trying to make progress on
fonts, I'm almost at the dreaded noto fonts) but then I'll go back
to texlive trying to debug why binary asymptote fails in 3D pictures
on a gcc6 system (i.e. the problem seems to be in a system lib) -
unfortunately, nothing clean like a segfault.
