Using a jhalfs build of LFS-SVN (of 22 January) as a base, I have installed enough dependencies to install and run xfce, using the BLFS SVN of January 29. On the desktop of every user - privileged or not - are icons for /dev, /run, /proc etc - most of the root directories. These open Thunar. I have discovered that I can remove these icons: under All Settings > Desktop > Icons > Default Icons I found the expected 4 options, and an option I haven't seen before for 'Other Devices'. Unchecking it made the unwanted icons go away. Why these icons should appear worries me - have I screwed something up in the underlying LFS build, or in the BLFS packages? The xfce forum hasn't found an explanation. Have I screwed something up?
I don't think so. I believe what you are describing is just the default behavior built into the package by upstream.
