I'm not familiar with gnuzilla, but I assume it is some sort of fork
of firefox. Firefox uses ld.gold if it is present - at various
times in the past (when I was playing with gold before it got into
the book), firefox was broken with newer ld.gold.
So, my suggestion is that you try building without it. If it really
is required, that obviously will fail, hopefully when running the
equivalent of configure - but I suspect it is "recommended, for a
*slightly* faster build" and the build will probably work fine
without it.
If it doesn't, the versions of binutils in our releases and in our
SVN books are only tested with the version of gcc there. It
*probably* works with a slightly earlier version of gcc, but that
has not been tested.
Beyond that, security fixes only get applied to the blfs SVN book
(I've done a few in the past week in Xorg and wpa_supplicant, you
are probably using libXfont-1 which has a vulnerability but had not
had a release to fix that when I last looked at it), and overall
there are many security fixes since even BLFS-8.1). So I cannot
recommend that people use even our 8.1 release without checking if
there is a better version in SVN (for often-vulnerable packages such
as browsers).
Unfortunately, because SVN is our development version and we now
have so many packages, from time to time there *will* be breakage in
some packages. Sometimes we win, sometimes we lose.
Like all graphical browsers, always prefer the latest release of
gnuzilla - most releases fix various vulnerabilities.
