Well, I'd finished the builds on the up-to-date system, so I looked
to see what I could quickly come up with. The following script is
somewhat pointless - it reencodes big_buck_bunny to a smaller file,
but using the x265 codec. It's just the first thing that came to
hand. Run 5 times, after each run remove the output file and drop
caches.
time ffmpeg -i ../big_buck_bunny.mp4 -c:v libx265 -preset medium -x265-params
crf=28 -c:a aac -strict experimental bunny.mp4
(I'm sure mailers can wrap that :)
What is surprising is that I've now booted with 'nopti' and the
_older_ firmware, expecting I might see a speed up - but it actually
slows down!
New fw, PTI Old fw, nopti
10.961s 11.425s
10.934s 11.130s
10.999s 11.056s
10.959 11.129s
10.981s 11.051s
I repeat that this isn't a useful test, just a quick one. Perhaps
figures for real-world use of ffmpeg might differ.
