InBLFS (systemd Edition) - Version 2020-01-07 I'm trying to build
Graphite2-1.3.13 but have run into several problems.

An optional dependency silgraphite is needed "to build the *comparerender*
test and benchmarking tool," but building it results in build errors that I
can't decipher.

So ignore it. SIL packages are interesting for people with an
interest in rendering certain languages, or for related tools, but
they are not necessarily actively-maintained. If my memory serves,
the benchmarking is probably for how fast, or slow, the rendering
happens.
Ok. Still, it's irritating when a package fails to compile.
In Graphite2 there is an instruction "make docs" which seems to run ok, but
the later commands:

cp -v -f doc/{GTF,manual}.html \ /usr/share/doc/graphite2-1.3.13 &&

cp -v -f doc/{GTF,manual}.pdf \ /usr/share/doc/graphite2-1.3.13

can't find the doc/GTF and doc/manual directories because they don't exist.

No idea, I don't build unnecessary documentation ;-)
Good point. But I would still like for everything to build smoothly.
The runtime option says:

"You will need at least one suitable graphite font
<http://scripts.sil.org/cms/scripts/page.php?site_id=projects&item_id=graphite_fonts>
for the package to be useful."
On the other hand, you can treat it as a build dependency even
if you have not installed any graphite fonts. For some people here,
that is probably the best way to go (but not for people who want to
render text in minority scripts, or using stacked diacriticals on
latin (or cyrillic, greek) alphabets. Actually, it may also be
aesthetically pleasing for arabic and related scripts which sort-of
render with some non-graphite fonts.
I'm putting this off until I get X installed.
Examples of some of these fonts can be found at my page
http://zarniwhoop.uk/ttf-otf-notes.html

Wow! Lots of work there!

But I can find no information anywhere about where to put downloaded fonts.
Help!

For people who build in /usr, /usr/share/fonts. See
http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/blfs/view/systemd/x/TTF-and-OTF-fonts.html
We assume that you have got fontconfig configured to your tastes,
and at least DejaVu installed.

Thank you!
