When I started to use BLFS for my main system we had far fewer
packages both in the book and generally available, and their
releases tended to be infrequent. It was possible to look at
problems and (if the issue was not brand new) often find solutions
or workarounds on google.

These days, google is often much less useful (a lack of unique
keywords for problems where other OS's or other languages use
similar words, plus changes in how it searches) and there is far
more churn of releases. So everyone not being paid to work on a
'nix distro has to decide what they will work on, and to hope that
someone will one day fix some of the other annoyances.

I understand - without X and a tolerable browser, things are much
harder.

Yeah, there are a few other fonts I'd like to find time to look at,
and some variations, but for the moment it ain't going to happen.
However I'm grateful to the people at SIL for some of the tools I
used.
