Were you using the laptops own speakers? If so, try plugging in some speakers, or some headphones.
Also, you could most likely test to see whether or not it is a 'hardware' issue or software specific by 'using' the keyboard as it attempts to literally boot up whereupon it should sort of 'beep' which will let you know if the built-in soundcard is working at all since I think modern laptops don't as such anymore actually have a small speaker on the motherboard as such like a PC actually did in the 80s/90s. However, like some of the other people said, it's probably best to get some sighted assistance. Oh yes - one more thing - can you, for example, open the CD-ROM drive or hear the fan when you 'turn it on'? That's sort of how I make sure mine has actually started booting up sometimes.
