Hi Tony,

I believe the Cannon 5020 is a high speed duplex scanner that I was using in
my previous job. It is no longer made and has been replaced with the 5070
or 5080. These are very fast scanners with very high price tags. If my
memory serves me correctly, they run around $4000 to $5000. These are not
bed scanners, thus you will need to have the binding cut off of your text
books before you can scan them. Usually your campus copy center, or local
Kinko's can do this for you. Some Kinko's have been known to cut the
binding off of the book(s) as long as you agree to return to them to have a
new comb or spiral binding put on the book by them once you are done
scanning the book.

There is another scanner you might want to take a look at. I will need to
provide you with the model number tomorrow. We just purchased this scanner
for an employee at my current job. I do not know if this scanner will work
with OpenBook, but the user will be using it with Abby Fine Reader and JAWS
to scan large quantities of hardcopy material. The scanner is a flat bed
scanner with a sheet feeder that is capable of performing duplex scanning,
at a rate of 25 single-sided pages per minute, or 50 pages per minute when
the pages are double-sided because it is scanning both sides at the same
time.

Subject: *****SPAM***** [Blind-Computing] a fast scanner

Hello everyone.

I need a fast scanner that will allow me to scan my text books with Open
Book from FS. I'm very busy, and time is of the essence. Can those of you
with experience in this share which scanners you have used or would
recommend for speed and accuracy? I need something big enough to scan text
books the size of an anatomy and physiology text. I looked on the FS site,
and the fastest one I found was the cannon DR50-20, but there was no
information on the cannon site about it. Thanks for any info.
