Another thing you may want to consider is it's staying power. By that I mean it's ability to withstand multiple hits and spills.
One of the new laptops out on the market today is the IBM ThinkPad Le Novo, which has a roll cage for the hard drive, and a spill proof keyboard. The other benefit to the ThinkPad laptops is the fact that it uses a track Point mouse or joystick, instead of the touchpad. It also has the six pack keys located at the top right hand corner of the keyboard. You will also find that they come in wide screen models, with full sized keyboards, however you may want to get a wider case for it, as standard cases won't fit the wide screen models. Granted, people with total vision loss won't care about the screen size, but the screen size will also affect the size of the keyboard, as most wide screen laptops come equipped with full sized keyboards. If, on the other hand, you are visually impaired, the wide screen would be a better add-on for what ever magnifier you decide to go with. Either way, most laptops, if not all, will come equipped with wireless capability, fully loaded with RAM and storage capacity, and a CPU speed that would rival the current land speed records. One thing I am wary of, and this is probably born of ignorance more than anything else, is the laptop temperatures. My laptop is a Toshiba, running a 1.83 duo core processor, and I gotta' tell ya', the heat coming out of the exhaust port is unbelievably hot. There are times when I can't hold my hand up to the port for very long that it almost burns. I don't get any temperature notifications or warnings, so I'm assuming that everything is alright. I am in the process of finding a program that will tell me the temperature my computer is running at, but so far, no luck finding anything free, so I just have to keep trudging on. Anyway, that's my two cents worth.
