Larry For your DSL connection I think that Windows Firewall that comes with Win XP works quite well. If you are using a router then I think the hardware firewall that comes with most routers is a better choice.
As far as your encryption question goes I am not sure from your question where the encryption is to be used. If you are talking about a wireless connection then both WEP and WPA do not interfere with Jaws. WPA would be the one to use since it is the strongest. Both encryption standards would come with the wireless router. Hope this helps, Russ ----- Original Message ----- From: "Larry Stansifer" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, September 24, 2007 5:51 PM Subject: [Blind-Computing] a new computer Hi folks, I have had it with this old machine. Its slow response and frequent crashes are on the way out. To that end, is there anything I need to be especially aware of in the purchase of a new windows machine? I know I want all of the processor speed, ram memory and hard drive they can stuff in the case. I am absolutely going with Windows-XP Pro, probably office XP only because I own it, Eudora for E-mail, Winamp for playing my work audio CD's, and probably AVG for my antivirus program. The two specific questions I have are: 1. What is in your opinion the best firewall program for a DSL connection? 2. What is a good encryption program that won't get in Jaws way? As always, I look foreword to your responses. Regards Larry Stansifer Thou art rewarded for thy results not for thine efforts.
