I have an Olympus Recorder - not quite sure what version possibly 22. I very much enjoy using it but...
I have learnt the following. 1. Have nothing to do with the manual which over complicates things. 2. Have nothing to do with the bundled software which I think is cumbersome and is again unnecessarily complicated. My strong advice is not to install it. Providing you follow this advice the recorder is great. Simply plug it into your USB port with the supplied cable and your computer will recognise it as a flash drive with 4 or 5 folders on it. By default all my recordings appear in the first folder asWMA files. I simply rename these if I want to keep them and move them to a folder on my hard disc. If I want to delete the files I do this from the computer. If I want to increase the volume or split the files I convert them to MP3 and use utilities like MP3 Gain to do these jobs. In short the only thing I do with my recorder is to record. I do everything else I need on the PC which I find a lot easier to do. I do not even know how to delete files or switch folders on the recorder itself but then I do not need to as I can sort all this out on the PC which personally I find much easier. What are they thinking? More questions: do all or some of the buttons speak? Or is it beeps? Can you scroll through files in the folders? I'm starting to wonder whether I should investigate more pricey pda's. Does anyone on this list recommend a good blind assistive tech list that a normal person could take advantage of?
