Dear Mitch

Interesting.
I had not thought of this.
In theory this can be done on any MP3 player. I have not listened to the pod
cast but to do what you want to do will require you I think to either;

1. Record yourself or somebody reading out the folder name as a file on your
PC or digital Dictaphone. There are various ways of doing this on a PC
using software like Gold wave or you could simply use the Windows Sound
Recorder. I believe the Zen will play the Wav file created from sound
recorder. Sound Recorder is in the Entertainment group which is in the
Accessories part of Programs group on the Start Menu.

Or

2. If you do not have a microphone handy Use a text to speech utility like
Kurzweil, TextAloudMP3 to create an a small MP3 file reading out the name
of the folder. There are quite a few free utilities that can do this as
well. The Jaws User and blind computing website has programs you can
download to do this.

Once you have created your sound file with the folder name you must copy it
into the relevant folder on the Zen stone.

To ensure this is the first file you hear when you play this folder you
should name or rename this sound file so that it is always the first file
played. Something like 000_books.mp3 should do the
trick. The Zen Stone plays by default files in alphanumeric order. You can
rename folders to achieve the same ordering. So 01Books, 02Music, 03Radio
will ensure that folders play in order on the Zen Stone.

Of course the sound recording you make does not have to be exactly the same
as the filename. So you could record yourself saying *This is my music
folder and save this file as 000_music.wav into your Zen Stone Music folder
and this should work fine.

Remember this may not work if you put the Stone in shuffle or random mode.

Regards

David Griffith

hi David Many Thanks for this info. What I was wondering though I should
have been a bit more clearer. In The podcast that talks about this player.
The person who is talking about it and demonstrating it when he terns on the
player he has a recording of his voice saying what each folder is and he has
placed that at the start of the folder to indicate what folder it was that
he was in. That is what I would like to know is how to recoard your voice
saying say music and then use the zen stoan to go to the folder when it
reaches the folder it says music for instence and then you know where you
are. I am not talking about when it is hooked up to the pc. I hope this
helps clear up what I was trying to say. If not then go to the blind cool
teck podcast sight and find the podcast that talks about the zen stoan and
you will know what i meen. from Mich Verrier from New Liskeard Ontario
Canada.
