Hi Chris,

In the Internet Options, under the advanced tab, down in the multimedia 
groups, you'll see play sounds in web pages checked.

Just uncheck it and you won't get any sounds coming through IE any longer.

You can always turn this back on when you finish with the page, but that's 
entirely up to you.

As Sarah suggested, if it's coming through a flash player, then it gets a 
bit more involved, as you'll have to get IE to ignore flash content, and 
that may ruin a great number of web pages that you may visit frequently 
without any problems.  Again, that's entirely up to you, but if you need the 
instructions, let me know and I'll walk you through the managing add-ons in 
IE.
