What mail client are you using? In OE you can either simply use the Delete key, or else, Ctrl + D will delete the current message and move on to the next one (which doesn't suit me since I have them sorted in descending order normally), and when I then jump to the next message, it starts reading it as if I had in fact entered on it in the list.
