Ok. Sorry, only realised now I had not 'read' that you were using the GMail website.
Only other thing I can suggest you try is Ctrl + Enter since it sort of bypasses certain 'blocked' activities/actions like allowing a window to pop up etc. even if you have pop up blocker activated, so it might do something related to some or other client-side script which might be what gmail is trying.
