Setting up a sound 1 insert f2 2 Arrow down to configuration manager 3 press enter 4 ctrl shift d 5 alt s 6 arrow down to speech and sounds 7 press enter 8 select the classic scheme you want 9 TAB to move to the Edit Current Scheme button, press enter 10 tab to the General tab 11 right arrow to Control Type tab 12 tab to get into the list of controls 13 arrow down to the thing you want to change 14 TAB key once, and you'll be in a list of four Radio Buttons. These buttons are used to tell JAWS what you want it to do when it encounters this control type. They are 1 Speak Control Type which allows you to tell JAWS to speak a custom message in the voice of your choice, 2 Change Voice which allows you to tell JAWS to identify the control type simply by changing voice, 3 Play Sound which allows you to tell JAWS to play the sound of your choice when this control is encountered, 4 Ignore. If you choose "Ignore", JAWS will still read you the control when it gains focus, but JAWS will not tell you, either in speech or with tones, what kind of control it is. 15 tab again, and you'll be on the Select Wave File button. 16 Press this to go to the list of available sounds. 17 Press DOWN ARROW until you find a sound you like. There are also buttons in this dialog to play the sound and browse for wav files elsewhere on your hard drive. When you are satisfied with your choice, press OK. 18 If you press TAB to move over to the List View, you will now see that the entry for "Edit" has been changed to "Play Sound BuzzerShort.wav". 19 To complete our modification, tab over to the OK button, and press it. You will be back at the first Speech and Sounds Manager dialog. 20 Tab over to the Save Scheme As button, and press it. 21 You'll find yourself in an edit field containing the original name of this scheme. 22 Let's change the name to "Test Scheme". 23 Then tab over to OK, and press it. 24 You'll now be back in the main dialog. If you tab over to the Combo Box of scheme names, you'll see that you have a new scheme called "Test Scheme" which contains your changes. 25 If you wish this to be the active scheme, tab over to the OK button and press it or just press ENTER. If you do this, then, as long as this scheme remains active, you will hear Edit fields announced by the BuzzerShort.wav sound and bold-underlined text announced in your custom BoldUnderlineVoice along with the phrase Bold and Underlined. To turn training mode on or off: 1. Press ALT+INSERT+S. 2.
