I'll weigh in here. If you are on a Windows platform you want to either use Internet Explorer 7 or Firefox 3. IE6 and earlier is simply put, horrible. Firefox 2 also had it's issues by eating memory at will it seemed.
What's the difference between IE7 and Firefox 3? Extensions! Firefox has a wealth of extensions/plug-ins to help with your web browsing. What about security? IE7 has come a long way to becoming more secure and most tech experts consider it as safe as Firefox3. A few actually consider it more secure than the fox. What about Safari on Windows? Run, run away! Safari on Windows is horrible. It is not secure. Think of IE3 or such. Apple can't beat IE7 or Firefox3. What about Flock? If you like to hit up the social networks, then flock will be a good browser to look at. It's basically a tricked out Firefox clone. Just another two cents opinion.
