I find that sometimes the bacspace key works better than alt left arrow. has anyone else seen this?

You may have to do something in the keyboard manager to see if you can see what else has been assigned to that keystroke, if anything, or, assign it to that task. I have found that newer versions of Jaws have fixed that little bug.
