Hi Patricia,
There are several ways to do this, this is just a generalization without 
getting into real specifics.
There is no need to worry about ripping the audio from the VHS tapes,
simply connect the audio output from your VCR to the audio input on your 
soundcard, and use your choice of recording software to record the sound, as 
the movie plays in the VCR.
You can save the sound as mp3 files if you wish, , and then burn the files 
to a cd, or DVD
as a data disk, and it should play in any computer, and most DVD players, 
especially the newer models.
