Hi Donald,
Playinga CD or DVD, would be quite impossible on any VCR.
My guess is, you meant to say DBVD player.
It would be best to use the line-in jack on the computer soundcard, to make 
sure you have better control over the sound input,
so as to keep from over-driving,not to nmention, to preserve the stereo 
sound.
Most microphone jacks on computers are mono.
Generally speaking, on DVD players capable of playing mp3 disks,
pressing the play button, will start the disk, and then useing the up and 
down buttons, you can move thru the tracks.
