I can cover the cable details very quickly. On the back or sometimes even on the front of the VCR there will be three RCA jacks for the video and audio output. RCA jacks are the type of small round, one conductor plug with a ground shield that simply plugs in (no turning or screwing on) These are the type of connectors typically used to connect stereo speakers. The three wires are for Left channel, right channel and composite video. Normally, they are positioned as follows from left to right on the VCR, left audio (color coded white), right audio (color coded red) and video (color coded yellow).
You will need to buy a special audio cable. On one end it has to have two RCA plugs (male) and the other end must have a standard stereo headphone plug (male). These type of cable should be readily available at Radio Shack or perhaps even at Wal-Mart. To connect the computer to the VCR, plug the headphone plug end of the cable into the microphone jack on the computer. The other end of the cable, which is actually two wires, plugs into the left and right audio RCA jacks on the VCR. Nothing needs to be plugged into the video jack on the VCR. If you can not determine the colors on the cable, it will still work the left and right channels will just be reversed. One issue you might run into is playing the MP3 CD or DVD on a standard VCR, will be starting the audio. Most VCRs will display a menu of the MP3 files available on the disk when inserted. This might be difficult to use for a blind user, but on most VCRs you can simply press the play button to start playing the first MP3 and continue to the next when the first is finished. hth Don Marang ----- Original Message ----- From: "Vy Pham" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, August 26, 2008 10:32 AM Subject: Re: [Blind-Computing] Converting VHS To MP3 > Hey Rick, is it possible for you to make a tutorial on how to connect the > audio output from the VCR to the audio input on the soundcard to turn > videos into mp3 files? > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "Rick Justice" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > To: <[email protected]> > Sent: Tuesday, August 26, 2008 10:20 AM > Subject: Re: [Blind-Computing] Converting VHS To MP3 > > >> Hi Patricia, >> There are several ways to do this, this is just a generalization without >> getting into real specifics. >> There is no need to worry about ripping the audio from the VHS tapes, >> simply connect the audio output from your VCR to the audio input on your >> soundcard, and use your choice of recording software to record the sound, >> as >> the movie plays in the VCR. >> You can save the sound as mp3 files if you wish, , and then burn the >> files >> to a cd, or DVD >> as a data disk, and it should play in any computer, and most DVD players, >> especially the newer models. >> HTH, >> ----- Original Message ----- >> From: "Patricia Dunbar" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> >> To: "BPC" <[email protected]> >> Sent: Tuesday, August 26, 2008 9:28 AM >> Subject: [Blind-Computing] Converting VHS To MP3 >> >> >>> It would seem I have a very large selection of described movies in VHS >>> and >>> I >>> would like to know just how to go about ripping the described portion of >>> these videos and making them into mp3's? >>> >>> Then, once I've done this, can I burn them to a disk, and then can I >>> play >>> this disk in my DVD player not the one for the computer? >>> >>> >>> Thanks, >>> >>> Patricia >>> >>> >>> Visit the JAWS Users List home page at: >>> http://www.jaws-users.com >>> Visit the Blind Computing home page at: >>> http://www.blind-computing.com >>> Address for the list archives: >>> http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/ >>> To post to this group, send email to >>> [email protected] >>> To unsubscribe from this group, send an email to >>> [EMAIL PROTECTED] >>> For help from Mailman with your account Put the word help in the subject >>> or body of a blank message to: >>> [EMAIL PROTECTED] >>> Use the following address in order to contact the management team >>> [EMAIL PROTECTED] >>> If you wish to join the JAWS Users List send a blank email to the >>> following address: >>> [EMAIL PROTECTED] >> >> >> Visit the JAWS Users List home page at: >> http://www.jaws-users.com >> Visit the Blind Computing home page at: >> http://www.blind-computing.com >> Address for the list archives: >> http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/ >> To post to this group, send email to >> [email protected] >> To unsubscribe from this group, send an email to >> [EMAIL PROTECTED] >> For help from Mailman with your account Put the word help in the subject >> or body of a blank message to: >> [EMAIL PROTECTED] >> Use the following address in order to contact the management team >> [EMAIL PROTECTED] >> If you wish to join the JAWS Users List send a blank email to the >> following address: >> [EMAIL PROTECTED] > > > Visit the JAWS Users List home page at: > http://www.jaws-users.com > Visit the Blind Computing home page at: > http://www.blind-computing.com > Address for the list archives: > http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/ > To post to this group, send email to > [email protected] > To unsubscribe from this group, send an email to > [EMAIL PROTECTED] > For help from Mailman with your account Put the word help in the subject > or body of a blank message to: > [EMAIL PROTECTED] > Use the following address in order to contact the management team > [EMAIL PROTECTED] > If you wish to join the JAWS Users List send a blank email to the > following address: > [EMAIL PROTECTED] Visit the JAWS Users List home page at: http://www.jaws-users.com Visit the Blind Computing home page at: http://www.blind-computing.com Address for the list archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/ To post to this group, send email to [email protected] To unsubscribe from this group, send an email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] For help from Mailman with your account Put the word help in the subject or body of a blank message to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Use the following address in order to contact the management team [EMAIL PROTECTED] If you wish to join the JAWS Users List send a blank email to the following address: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
