John
I guess really the first question to ask is whether a pop-up message
appeared when you put the disk in the drive. Were you given the option to
use MediaPlayer to play the DVD?If it did, and you chose MediaPlayer, what
happened next? If you tried to play the DVD using Windows MediaPlayer, did
you get a message saying that you do not have a video codex installed?
Usually, a video codex is included with a DVD drive so you might check to
see if a CD was included with your drive.
Let us know what you tried and what happened.
Take care,
Russ

Subject: [Blind-Computing] QUESTION ABOUT PLAYING DVDS ON A COMPUTER
I tried to play a DVD on my computer recently, something I've never tried
before. Needless to say, it didn't work at all.
Here are a couple of questions that I hope someone can answer for me.
1. The drive I have is marked as a CD/DVD drive. But does it have
to
operate at a certain speed to play DVD disks?
Do they operate at a higher speed than 32X?
2. Do I need some kind of special program to play DVD disks on my
computer
if the drive is fast enough?
3. I have GoldWave, Real Player and Windows Media Player. Is it correct
to
assume that none of these will play a DVD recording?
