I agree Rosemarie that something like what G.W. or Serotek does with a pay as you go plan would be helpful. I think however that FS is very comfortable in its position of top company and shan't change until it is forced upon it.

I find the best way to do this is to communciate clearly with them about what I like and don't like about the company. I have also started a Consumers for Windows Driver Based Braille Displays on Facebook to try and get people to write FS, Humanware, etc. to request they make their Braille displays with a plug and play feature where the display runs off of either a HIP or some other driver in order to provide the most wide competition amongst Braille displays. Thus people would have access to the best Braille display for them reguardless of which screen reader they use.

Such actions will not come easily though, and as I mentioned above change doesn't happen until it must.

   Thanks.

Have they resolved the find function in Firefox 3? I know it's not that hard to
use alt control f for whatever the key stroke is, but I use this feature
constantly and it's a pain when I hit control f and just screw up things.
Control f is so quick and easy and I've used it for years. I know I'm whining.

Control-F works in Firefox 3 only with JAWS 10. For other versions of JAWS,
Insert-Control-F works.

I use JAWS and the PAC Mate, but I'm pretty sure FS wouldn't appreciate
my suggestions, like actually involving themselves with other AT companies
to ensure equal access and value to their customers. Making their Braille
displays (PM and Focus) have a plug and play feature built in so those who
don't use JAWS can still use their Braille displays if they wish, and
similar suggestions.

Palying nice doesn't seem to be FS's way though. I am going to be
switching screen readers to System Access and the Alva BC640 next year due
to this snarkiness on their behalf. The customer service sucked, and while
I could deal with that, the combination of feeling like I'm dealing with
Microsoft in India combined with the general attatude of FS towards their
customers in particular and the AT community in General was just too much.
I have loved JAWS and used it for the past 12 years, so am sorry to need to
make the switch, but in the end I cannot support a company that cares so
little about its customers.

   My thoughts only of course.

I'll weigh in before Rick and Dave kick me off list LOL. I wish and I know
everyone agrees with me is that I wish FS would you let you the consumer
make credit card payments towards the purchase of JFW and Magic. I think it would surly partially eliminate the bozos who make cracked versions of JFW.
I mean what is FS loosing? Hell they are getting there money! Sorry for
being so harsh, but not everyone is involved with department of rehab or
division of blind services who needs JFW for work or home and for people
like me and my wife who can't afford the $900 cost. OK orf me soap box now.

Hi, George. It would be nice if Freedom Scientific could share ideas and
work with other companies to make things better for blind customers. The
one thing I really like about GW Micro is that if you can't afford to buy
Window-eyes, you can get it on a lease-to-own program. I don't know why
Freedom Scientific can't let people buy Jaws in the same way.

license is for only 1 person. It's a good deal they've got going though.

Hi, Lino. The thing I hate about voc rehab is that they won't give you a
screen reader like Jaws unless it's work related. There used to be a
homemaker program where you could get Jaws for personal use at home but I
think that went out the window. If it wasn't for my parents helping me get
Jaws, I probably wouldn't even have a computer now.
