There are several Michael but to me, the best and most capable digital
recorder is the Olympus DS50. It has spoken menus which are easily
accessible. There are some functions such as the clock which require a
more inventive touch, but even those are useable. The unit is small and
runs on 2 tripple A batteries.
Now as to the recorder/computer accessibility, the DS50 comes with a cable
which connects it to the computer's USB port.
There is software available on a disk which is mostly accessible but you
can easily work with the folders in the unit using My Computer or Windows
Explorer, whichever you prefer. The recorder shows up as an additional
drive when you plug it in.
The sound quality is good and even better when connected to stereo
headphones.
It comes with a removeable stereo microphone and an internal monno
microphone as well.
I don't know what the current cost is. When Linda my wife purchased it,
the cost was about $250.
