This same problem came up a while ago, Alex. Basically, for some odd
reason, French is the default language for Outlook Express. The way to
correct the problem is to look for the .LEX file in your PC. Since
Outlook worked with Spell Check, there has to be one in there somewhere.
You could then copy that file to the Outlook Express folder. You might even
be able to "import" the file using that function in Outlook Express.
Failing that, there are several free dictionary files available. The point
is this. Outlook Express is defaulting to French because it can't find an
English dictionary on which to base its spell checking function.
If you have Microsoft Word on your system, it has an excellent dictionary
file. In some rare cases, what you may need to do is to uninstall Internet
Explorer and then re-install it afterwards. I suggest that you first try to
find a dictionary file in the Office folder. Since you already have
Outlook, that file has to be there.

Subject: [Blind-Computing] spell check in oe
Since I'm having a major Outlook problem at the moment, i'm forced to use
Outlook Express. This is not really a big deal. However, I like to have my
messages spell checked before sending. Having checked this option in the
options dialog box, I find that the language I have selected to check
spelling in is French, and I don't seem to be able to change this. Any
help would be most welcome. The spellcheck was working fine in Outlook
2007.
Cheers
Alex
