Your best course of action would be to decide which of the two screen
readers you want to keep, and get rid of the other one. Why do you need
both JAWS and Window Eyes on the same system? I am surprised that a state
rehab agency would spend almost $2000 of taxpayer money on two screen
readers for the same system, when one would be perfectly adequate. No wonder
there's an economic crisis in this country. If you need a back-up screen
reader to either JAWS or Window Eyes, you might consider NVDA, which is free
and pretty usable.

Obviously, I was hoping someone on this list might be able to assist me.
I am currently setting up a brand new Dell Optiplex Desktop system. It is
a Vista Home Premium 32 bit system and as of yet, there is no antivirus
installed. I have also disabled UAC until I get all the software
installed. And therein lies the rub: I've successfully installed JAWS 10,
MAGic 11, and ZoomText 9.4, but when I tried installing Window Eyes 7.01,
there is some sort of conflict. By the way, this is not my system, the
State rehabilitation agency purchased it for one of their consumers and I
am simply expected to set it up. I admit I am a JAWS user so I enlisted
Window Eyes tech support to assist me in the installation. One of their
agents, whose name I prefer not to mention, helped me make the correct
choices during the installation process. Yet after the installation was
complete and the system was rebooted, all there was on the screen was
black with the white mouse pointer in the center of the
screen. I've already stated that I am a JAWS user so to say that I am
visually impaired would be redundant. Still, I have enough remaining
vision to make the previous observation. When I asked the GW Micro tech
support to comment on the problem, the only thing he had to offer was that
it may be a video driver issue and the drivers may need to be updated. I
do not understand how this could be the case as the system is brand
spanking new with an upgraded ATI HD 2400 Pro Graphics card. I asked
whether there were any known issues with having so many other assistive
technologies installed on one computer or if there was a particular order
in which they needed to be installed. The answer was no to both
questions.
Fortunately, before installing any software, I create System Restore
points. So, with sighted assistance, I booted into safe mode and put the
system back to before the Window Eyes installation and all was well. I
then called GW Micro tech support again and spoke with another tech. I
told him of my experience and all he had to add was that there was a
conflict. Duh! Unfortunately, they offered no further assistance.
So, what I would like to know is, does anyone have any ideas of which
course of action I should follow next. I may, just for the heck of it,
update the graphics card driver, but if that does not work, what then? In
fact, I have never yet had to update a video card driver so I am not even
sure of the process though I imagine I can figure that one out. But if
anyone would like to provide some advice, I would be very grateful.
