It sounds like you   do not have classic view set.
Taskbar and Start menu properties can be set  in Control Panel as well. Can
you navigate to Control Panel.

I'm using a spanish version of Windows XP, but I can't find the option
 to uncheck the checkbox. in my start  menu, I have a sub menu called
Todos los programas or All programs, but I can't find it in the start
menu.
so please, tell me what is the best that I can do.
