It may be that you have a CD burner but only a DVD read capacity. Some older drives did not have a DVD burn capacity.
If you do believe that you have a DVD burner you will need DVD burning software. There is no DVD Burner included with XP . I would suggest that you go to the Jaws User Programs page where there are several free programs which will burn DVDS.
