It does sound like hardware but I would suggest re-installing the display
driver first before sending it back.  

Actually updating rather than re-installing may be the best course if you
know the name of your graphics card  perhaps from Device Manager or Belarc
Advisor, and can go to the web site.
Unfortunately this will knock out your Video Intercept Manager with Jaws so
a re-install here will also be necessary. I think NVDA can continue working
irrespective of updates to a graphics driver.

Hello all,
I'm having a problem with my Compaq laptop running Vista Home Premium with 
latest updates. I've had reports of the screen looking garbled, i.e., 
displaying lines instead of actual graphics. Does anyone know if this can be

fixed? If so would it require sending the laptop off for repair? Because I 
don't have a spare machine to play with but at the same time I'd rather get 
it fixed before it doesn't work at all.
